Why I Made Clarity Lotion in 2016 — and Why It Still Exists in 2026
A real, no-hype explanation of what I wanted to solve for oily, acne-prone Indian skin — and how we approached it.
I made this because oily skin didn’t have gentle options
I made Clarity Lotion in 2016 because oily, acne-prone skin didn’t have many gentle options back then. Most acne products were either too harsh or too heavy. If something controlled oil, it dried the skin out. If it moisturised well, it often caused breakouts.
I didn’t want to make another “acne cream” that works short term and creates sensitivity over time. I wanted a daily moisturiser for oily and acne-prone skin that could be used long term—without burning, stinging, or clogging pores.
The real issue with many “oil-free” moisturisers
Over the years, I’ve noticed many people say: “This moisturiser is oil-free, but my skin still gets oily.” That usually isn’t because of oils.
- Heavy silicones that sit on the skin
- Gel polymers that form a film
- Alcohol that dries skin and triggers rebound oil
- Quick “mattifying” formulas that don’t support balance
When skin feels sealed or stripped, it often responds by producing more oil. That’s why shine comes back by noon and acne can keep repeating.
How Clarity Lotion was built differently
Clarity Lotion was built to be light, breathable, and stable in Indian weather. We use a lightweight emollient base (including C15–C19 Alkane) so the lotion spreads easily without sealing the skin or trapping oil.
Thyme
Chosen to support calmer-looking breakouts and recovery.
Black Pepper
Selected for clarity support without harsh “stripping” feel.
Magnolia
Included for soothing stressed, reactive, acne-prone skin.
Camellina
Light barrier support without heaviness.
What results look like for recurring acne
Clarity Lotion isn’t meant to give overnight results. For recurring acne, improvement usually looks like:
Fewer sudden breakouts
Less redness around acne
Oil that feels more controlled through the day
Skin that feels comfortable instead of tight
Many people use it twice a day and pair it with niacinamide, salicylic acid, or retinol. It’s designed to sit well under sunscreen and not pill easily.
Why it’s still being used in 2026
This product has been around for nearly a decade, and that wasn’t planned — it happened because people kept coming back. Some customers have used it since 2018. Others find it after trying multiple products that didn’t work for them.
“Clarity lotion is literally a savior for when nothing works on my skin. A staple for me truly!”
“Perfect for daily acne care routine — lightweight and plant based!”
“I have oily acne prone skin and currently on my 4th tube… it reduces oil production and doesn’t cause new breakouts.”
“True to its name, it clears acne prone skin over time, quick absorbing and calms the skin.”
One more thing: barrier repair matters too
If your skin is oily but also feels sensitive, tight, or easily irritated (especially after actives), barrier support becomes important. That’s why we also have a separate moisturiser approach for repair-focused routines.
